- Censorship.... (Miss Begum)-

Censorship.... 'What are the things you think will get censored?' 'Violence' 'Graphic symbol and realism' 'Corrupt the young' 'Disagreement and the Press' 'Sex and Nudity' 'Sexual violence' 'Religion' 'Class' 'Language' 'Shock' 'Drug abuse' 'Banned or cut…' When a film is taken away from cinema broadcasting entirely due to indecent, harmful or aggressive material.
When a film is edited or has had scenes taken out of it to make it suitable for broadcasting.
'What does film censorship mean?' (Film censorship) is carried out by various countries to contrary degrees, sometimes as a result of powerful or harsh pushing by establishments or individuals. Films that are banned in a particular country change over time.
The British Board of Film Classification is an independent establishment that exists to regulate and classify the content of films shown in cinemas and released on video. 'List 5 thing that you would expect to be considered' 1. Sex Scenes 2. Violence 3. Drug abuse 4. Religion 5. Graphic symbol 'Banned Film within the UK?' (The Exorcist)
The histrionic version was passed, uncut, by the BBFC in 1974 and has always been legal. The home video of the film was released in 1979. The home video was not banned, but Warner decided not to submit the film for classification for a few years. (Visions of Ecstasy)
Banned under blasphemy laws (which were repealed in 2008), it is the only film ever to be banned in the UK due to blasphemy. Following a re-submission in 2011, it was passed uncut with an 18 certificate. 'The Last House on the Left'
Banned by the BBFC until 2002 and not passed uncut until 2008. Released on home video in 2002, when the market was tolerant, but banned following the Video Recordings Act 1984. 'The Human Centipede 2'
Originally banned due to sexual violence and possible offensiveness. This film was given an official age certificate of 18 by the BBFC on 6 October 2011 while the suppliers agreed to make 32 cuts before its release. 'Freaks'
Rejected by British censors and banned due to disturbing content. It was again rejected for a cinema rating certificate in 1952. Available from 1963 - passed with an X rating.

- Costume As Media....(Miss Heath)-

Costume As Media.... -Describe the clothing- -Action Hero- The typically Super hero would wear thigh clothing the reason for this is because they have to move fast from scene to scene. -Villain- You Villain in the movie would wear the same type of clothing that a super hero would wear but with darker clothing to make them look like there the villain in the movie. -Ready for battle- When some that is ready for the main fight scene would have to be fit and would have to have a lot of stamina for example Spider man would have to be very fit for the movie because he has to be on his feet through out the whole movie. -Vulnerable Person- A Vulnerable person during the film would be wearing smart business clothing for example someone that are coming out of there work place E.G civilian. -A teacher- A teacher in a film would also be wearing smart clothing for example, a shirt and a long skit they are also very vulnerable people during the film. Fearless Scene… During Spider man he has a lot of fearless scene because he is saving the general public from the infamous villain, For example when he fight he gets a lot pain inflicted on him. Also he wears a skin thigh suit to make things easier to do like jump on wall this makes things much more difficult if you are doing it in a pair of jeans. The colors on Spider man suit are very unique because if you was to look at and villain and then look at Spider man you would know who the difference between them. -Represented through there costumes- Characters do not strictly require actual superhuman powers to be considered superheroes, although standings such as costumed crime fighters or masked vigilantes are sometimes used to refer to those such as Batman and Green Arrow without such powers who share other common superhero behaviors. Such characters were generally referred to as "mystery men" Normally, superheroes use their powers to counter day-to-day crime while also combating threats against humanity by super villains, their criminal counterparts. Often, one of these super villain's will be the superhero's opponent. As well, some long running superheroes, such as Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man.

- Lighting... (Miss Heath)-

Lighting As Media..... -Lighting- -Key Light- -This is the main light. It is usually the strongest and has the most influence on the look of the scene. It is placed to one side of the camera/subject so that this side is well lit and the other side has some shadow. -Fill Light- This is the secondary light and is placed on the opposite side of the key light. It is used to fill the shadows created by the key. The fill will usually be softer and less bright than the key. To achieve this, you could move the light further away or use some spun. You might also want to set the fill light to more of a flood than the key. -Back Light- -The back light is placed behind the subject and lights it from the rear. Rather than providing direct lighting (like the key and fill), its purpose is to provide definition and subtle highlights around the subject's outlines. This helps separate the subject from the background and provide a three-dimensional look.
-Under Lighting- You will see under lighting during a film for example fast and the furious when the drivers have ‘neon lights beneath there cars. -Top Lighting- Your likely to see Top light in films and programmes for example, Helicopters have to use the top lighting to see the criminal running it is the same in the movies. -Back Lighting- When you think of back light you automatically think of big Hollywood production Movies but, Back lighting is use in every movie not just big production films.
-Low Key- The lighting is dark with small areas of light, which also creates shadows. -High Key- Lighting appears more natural and realistic to our eyes. For example it is used in films to recreate a sunny day in the park -Natural Lighting- When no lighting has been added, it is what you expect to see.
-Thriller Specific- -Stress Low Key Lighting- Low can be a problem for example when the victim is running away you will not be able to see them. Because the lighting of the scene isn't bright enough to see them moving, the actor will come out as nothing but a black spot. -Low key Lighting and audience response- My response about the use of low key lighting in any movie that I have watch is perfect so far only if you use it well, it make the film look Ten times better then what it really looks like with natural lighting. -Low key Lighting and atmosphere Created- -Scene/Location- Its all about the atmosphere and the location during the film because it brings so much tension to the film if its base in a old haunted house with low key lighting. -Characters- Also the characters play a big part in the movie because with out the actors and actresses they would be a movies at the end of the day. -Narrative Assumptions- Assuming what's going to happen at the end of the movie and getting it completely wrong.

- Cinematography... (Miss Begum)-

Cinematography A cinematographer is one photographing with a motion picture camera (the art and science of which is known as cinematography The title is generally equivalent to director of photography (DP), used to designate a chief over the camera and lighting crews working on a film, responsible for achieving artistic and technical conclusions related to the image.
Response from the audience Snakes on a Plane is a 2006 action thriller film directed by David R. Ellis and starring Samuel L. Jackson. It was released by New Line Cinema on August 18, 2006, in North America. The film was written by David D'Alessandro, John Heffernan, and Sheldon Turner and follows the events of hundreds of snakes being released on a passenger plane in an attempt to kill a trial witness. Contagion is a 2011 medical thriller disaster film. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the film features an ensemble cast that includes, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Kate Winslet,. The plot of Contagion documents the spread of a virus transmitted by fomites, attempts by medical researchers and public health officials to identify and contain the disease, the loss of social order in a pandemic, and finally the introduction of a vaccine to halt its spread.
Camera angles Camera Shots A camera shot is the amount of space that is seen in one shot or frame. Camera shots are used to demonstrate different aspects of a film's setting, characters and themes. As a result, camera shots are very important in shaping meaning in a film. Reviewing the examples on the right hand side of this page should make the different camera shots clearer. An extreme long shot (animation on right) contains a large amount of landscape. It is often used at the beginning of a scene or a film to establish general location (setting). This is also known as an establishing shot. A long shot (animation on right) contains landscape but gives the viewer a more specific idea of setting. A long shot may show the viewers the building where the action will take place.
Camera movements Prior to film production, it seemed logical to research the changing different camera shots and angles. Not only this but I did further research into the most major forms of camera movement within thriller films in order to ensure that my thriller fits as many typical crime thriller conventions as possible. From this research I distinguished that within thrillers the most common form of camera movement is the use of tracking and pan shots. A more notable form of camera shot used within thrillers is the use of “dolly zoom”. The use of this shot creates a sense of nervousness and it looks weaken the audiences’ normal visual awareness.
Conclusion Cinematography has help me to know the camera shots for example, ‘Long shots’ and ‘close up’ is to see the emotions of the actors/actresses, like if they are shocked or if they have the villain coming behind them they would use a ‘long shot’ so that you can see the chase. In the image they have used a shot called ‘Close up’ this shot was made so that you can see there faces and half of the body. The second image they have used the shot called ‘Mid Shot’ this allows you to see the half of the body nothing else. Third image they are using the ‘Long shot’ so that you can see more of the body for example, the legs and the waist

- Focus…Sound.... (Miss Begum)-

Focus…Sound Dietetic Sound: Sound, which is part of the film world e.g. dialogue, music from a radio or jukebox. The sound can be on or off screen. Non - Dietetic Sound: Sound, which is not part of the film world e.g. a soundtrack, sound effects, voice-overs Sound 1. Sound in Cinema Dialogue Music Sound Effects He wants to watch where he pokes that thing Knock his teeth out! 2. Dietetic( from inside the Dietetic ) refers to sound that BOTH the audience and the characters can hear. This would be sound effects or music played in the scene. NON-Dietetic refers to sound that ONLY the audience can hear. Typically, this would be Soundtrack music – played for effect, to build tension in the audience but not part of the scene itself Two Types of SOUND: 3. The Powers of Sound is a powerful film technique for many reasons. To begin, sound engages a distinct sense which can lead to a “synchronization of senses”-- making a single rhythm or expressive quality unify both image and sound. Today's lesson Paranormal Activity is a 2007 American supernatural horror film written and directed by Oren Peli. The film centers on a young couple, Katie and Micah, who are haunted by a supernatural presence in their home. It is presented in the style of "found footage", from cameras set up by the couple in an attempt to photograph what is haunting them.
Conclusion Conclusion From this lesson I have learnt that the sound in the intros and the movies its self is very important for example, if you didn't hear the sound of the movie then you wouldn't understand the film, for example wont be able to hear what they are saying. You have to hear all the aspects of the movie like the sound and the music, because don’t want to watch a film with any sound.

- Research: Editing ....(Miss Begum)-

Focus.... Editing The speed of the movie is all done by a editing software for example, ‘Adobe After effects’ this is the software that makes the film that you are watching slow down when something is dropping like a glass they would slow it down so that it brings more tension in the film. When the shot speeds up that generally means that there is someone run from something E.g. a super hero called flash his super power is super speed so in the shot wear he is going to use it they will speed up the scene.
In the opening scene to ‘ Spider-man’ the clip had 7 edits this makes the intro to the film more exacting for example, it looks like the super hero is extra powerful like, like Spider-man shot his Webb and the producer of the film slowed the clip down to make him look like he is invisibly to all the other characters. After 30 minutes into the film Spider-man gets attack in the middle of the night by the villain green goblin, Spider-man shoots a Webb at his enemy trapping him from using his weapons.
During the fighting scene in Spiderman it has a very big part in editing for example, if you slow down a part of the film where he is specking during the fight then you wont really be able to understand because it sounds like he is slurring his words. This can be a down fall to the movie because if you do the slowing down for too long it could have a big effect on the audience.
Speed…Editing The effect it could have on the audience is very big because if the clip is slowed down for too long it will be hard for us to understand and the movie would get a negative review. (genres?) Action, Thriller and horror Fast editing is good but too much of it in a film can spoil the hole movie because if they use him run every time the hero gets into trouble it would of as the hero’s scared to fight the villain (genres?) ?) Action, Thriller and horror I think that if the film is only editing at some parts that would build more tension to me and the audience that watch the film.
General… Trailers… Straight cut example When one shot moves into another shot in an edit and it does not confuse the audience Fade to black example When one shot goes/moves into another and there is a black filter in between.
Editing is and why it is important? I think editing is important because if the film that I was watching didn't have any editing I would be very bored editing makes the film look and feel better to watch. For Example if was watching Spider-man and the clips that was use didn't have any editing and they were all the raw clips I would be rather upset because you would get that feel that you normally get when you watch a super hero fight his villain.
Causing a response from the audience? The type of editing that would get a good reaction out of the audience would be if you Spider-man shot out his Webb and you could see at the start that its slowly moving and after about 30 seconds it speed up again so the super hero's can re-enter the fight. Also the camera angle has a big effect on the editing because if you don't get the right angle you might not be able to editing that part if it don’t come out good then it will have a bad effect of the viewers .
Research of editing helped you? The research I have done has helped me a lot because it has made me change my mind about the shots I'm going to use during my opening scene for example, to much editing can ruing the hole scene that I have to do. The shot I'm going to use is the same as the are using in Spider-man it make it more better because you can see that the editing in the film is done profusely.

- Genre....(Miss Begum) -

Genre -
When filmmakers and movie critics refer to a film genre, they generally mean a specific style or subject matter. While a movie may have elements of a number of different genres, it is often classified under a single film genre for reference purposes. For example a ‘Thriller’ is a horror the age rating for this genre would be a 18 The thriller genre – definition Thriller is a genre of fiction in which tough, resourceful, but essentially ordinary heroes are pitted against villains determined to destroy them, their country, or the stability of the free world. Part of the allure of thrillers comes from not only what their stories are about, but also how they are told.
Examples of thriller films – state why/brief description of narrative Thriller is a broad genre of literature, film, and television programming that uses suspense, tension and excitement as the main elements. Thrillers heavily stimulate the viewer's moods giving them a high level of  anticipation, ultra-heightened expectation, uncertainty, surprise, anxiety and or Terror.
Sub-genres of thrillers - examples Crime Thriller film is a sub-genre that incorporates the suspenseful aspects of a thriller with a crime film plot. This sub-genre's plot usually centres on a serial killer, murderer, robbery, or manhunt. As opposed to traditional crime films, the story-line focuses both around the criminal and the protagonist. Crime Thrillers use both action and psychological aspects to build tension and suspense.
Common themes – examples (Generic Convention) What the audience expect to see in that film genre. In a thriller film the generic conventions we expect to see, in regards to aspects such as sound may be eerie music, creaking doors and bad weather conditions. It is generally based around the expectations of that genre, what we would typically see within it.
